6 Ranking Events

With the non-inclusion of several events for the 2009/2010 season we have 6 ranking events forthcoming which begs the question: What on earth are the WPBSA doing to promote our sport? Back in the late 70's we had an independent promoter as well as a governing body and the question should be asked whether this should be brought back into play. It makes perfect sense to drop events if they are not being sponsored or supported (Dont get me started on the sponsoring side) but it makes NO sense at all not to replace them. The top professionals need more competition and so do the newcomers to the main tour. With fewer starting points for newcomers than in recent seasons it will be that much harder to remain on the MT...and even harder with fewer events. Stand up and be counted Sir Rodney and co.

As well as letting you all know a bit about me and keeping you up to date with whats going on in the snooker world I also intend to extend my coaching from my local hall onto here. Im 25 and fell in love with snooker in 1989 aged 6. Within days it seems I was playing on the floor using nothing but a ruler for a cue and marbles for balls. Over time I wrote the players names on them and created my own World Championship. My first favourite was Steve Davis as I recall but Ronnie O'Sullivan quickly caught my eye. I have enjoyed every World Championship over recent times none more than Shaun Murphys 2005 Crucible triumph. His rolls-royce cue action is easy on the eye and he is a worthy champion of our sport. While we always remember those who have passed noticeably Paul Hunter in October 2006 we can be proud of those who have left their mark on this wonderful game.
